Sources policy
Good guides depend on good sources. Here is what we rely on and in what order.
Primary sources first
- The operator's own published terms: general terms, bonus terms, the payments page and the footer licence details.
- Regulators and statutory bodies: the Gambling Commission for GB rules, the issuing authority for the operator's licence, and GAMSTOP for self-exclusion.
- Game studios: published game rules, paytables and RTP information.
- Our own testing: deposits, withdrawals, support conversations and screenshots, dated and kept on file.
Support and treatment organisations
For responsible gambling information we refer to BeGambleAware, GamCare, GAMSTOP, Gamblers Anonymous and NHS gambling services, and we link directly to them.
What we do not treat as a source
- Other affiliate sites' reviews, including their bonus figures, which are often out of date.
- Anonymous forum posts, except as a prompt for our own checks.
- Press releases, unless the claim can be confirmed elsewhere.
- Screenshots sent to us that we cannot reproduce ourselves.
Citing
Where a reader would reasonably want to check a claim, we name the source in the text and link to it if it is public. Links to regulators and charities are ordinary links. Links to the operator are marked as sponsored.
Dates on sources
Operator terms change without warning, so we record the date we read each version and keep a copy. When a reader questions a figure, we can show which version of the terms it came from and when we last checked it. Regulatory sources are dated too, because GB rules have changed several times in recent years and an article citing an older rule can mislead without being technically wrong.
When sources disagree
If the operator's promotional banner and its written terms say different things, the written terms win and we point out the discrepancy. If the operator's terms conflict with a regulator's statement, we report both.
